These hand poses that make me look like a great yogi. 😄
What is a mudra?
The word mudra comes from Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language, and means “gesture”.
It is mainly used to describe a codified, symbolic gesture of the hands and fingers.
Mudras can be found in :
- Yoga.
- Meditation.
- Religious rituals.
- Traditional dance.
There are hundreds of different mudras, each with its own meaning.
The best-known example is used during meditation : joining the thumb and another finger.

The origins of mudras
These finger signs originate from ancient Indian traditions.
They are mentioned in various sacred texts, such as the veda.
While some mudras date back thousands of years, others have been added over time.
As a result, it is difficult to know the origin of each mudra and its true meaning.
What are mudras for?
This subtle science, performed with one or both hands, is used to :
- Promote concentration and meditation.
- Calm the mind.
- Channel energy within the body.
- Promote healing.
- Regulate breathing.
- Stimulate energy circulation.
- Establish a connection between the body and the Universe.
- Activate chakras.
In other words, a precise position of my palm can have an effect on the functioning of my entire system.

The danger of mudra
The general consensus is that mudras are a safe and beneficial practice.
Yet there is a certain danger in using them.
Mudras are counterproductive
A yoga teacher who uses hand postures is simply following the teaching he or she has received, without questioning its meaning.
Most mudras were channeled by ancient Indian sages. But channelling is not always reliable, especially if I am under the influence of an entity.
What’s more, they were passed down from generation to generation by oral tradition. Over time, mistakes were made.
As a result, most mudras used today are counter-productive. Just when I think I am increasing my concentration, this mudra actually stimulates my mind.
Mudras connect me to an energy
By holding my fingers in a certain way, the energies flow differently.
Some of these symbolic signs are very powerful.
A mudra can bind me to a malevolent energy if the person who channeled it was subject to that same energy – most of the time without even realizing it.
In this way, many finger positions feed egregores of my energy.
The mudra becomes a sign that limits my power.
For a long time, I connected my thumb, index and middle fingers during meditation. Until a therapist scolded me for wasting energy through this practice, the meaning of which I didn’t know.

Conclusion
What is the danger of mudras?
The true meaning of these symbolic gestures has been lost in their age-old transmission.
Using them without awareness is counter-productive.
It is difficult to distinguish between beneficial mudras and those that cause me to lose energy.
The power of the hands is extraordinary, but to properly master this highly precise art requires a deep spiritual awakening.
