Or how to send gallons of water up my butt. 😄
What is colonic irrigation?
Colon cleansing has been practiced in all eras, in all civilizations, for thousands of years.
Today we are rediscovering its benefits, thanks to its modern version: colon hydrotherapy.
It allows to clean deeply the large intestine, which tends to accumulate waste.
Even if it is often used in the case of disease, it has its place in prevention.

How does it work?
A tool sends purified water through the rectum, and a hose collects what comes out.
If the power of the machine allows it, the water circulates throughout the colon until it reaches the ileocecal valve. This valve blocks any return of the large intestine to the small intestine.
What happens during a session?
The enema is usually offered in health care centers.
It is performed by colon hydrotherapists or doctors.
After a preliminary interview, the patient removes his or her pants and lies down with legs bent.
The therapist introduces a hose into the anus. The machine is then activated, and the water begins to circulate.
The session lasts approximately 40 to 45 minutes.
A light bowel massage is done at the same time to facilitate the cleansing.
As part of my colon detox, I did a hydrotherapy. I was a little apprehensive, but the therapist was very professional. It was not painful. When I got home, I was tired and took a nap.
Advice
Before the colonic irrigation, a 24-hour water fast is recommended.
3 hours before, I can drink an infusion of rosehip and walnut leaves, to prepare my body.
A colon cleansing is never trivial, it requires a lot of energy.
After the session, I can be tired. Rest is recommended, as well as avoiding sports for 24 hours.
The best foods after a colon irrigation are tomatoes and chia seeds. They rebalance the intestines so that they recover more quickly. After that, I can wait 2 hours before my first meal, which will be light.
